I think that you should not wear a thong because of your friends, this would just be you trying to (even subconsciouly) fit in.
If you decide to wear one, then it is your own choice, you seem mature enough and smart enough to under stand the consequences of wearing a Thong. That is there are some people who will see the thong and take it the wrong way: your parents might think you are turning bad, teachers/other adults might think you are becoming slutty, the public will either see that you are trying to get attention or you are a whore.
It is really up to you whether you can deal with these consequences without being paranoid. If you are scared of any of these thoughts then i think you need to reconsider wearing the thong till you are more comfortable with yourself and what you are trying to show to the world.
