Cutting alone won’t do much. You’ll need to be good with a sewing machine.
If you’re cool with a half-arsed job cut off the exess but DON’T leave just a string. It will break. a Thicker butt-strand will curl around itself to form a sturdy string, or that’s what you should hope for.
Your best option is to get a friend/relative that can sew and get funky with some of their materials, ribbon and lace.
